The Hidden Power of Neutrality

Somebody typed triamazikamno into a search engine, and it brought them here.
It is Gurdjieff's word for the Law of Three. Ouspensky put it plainly: one force, or two forces, can never produce a phenomenon. Two forces just revolve around each other, and from the inside, that revolving looks exactly like effort. Only when the third enters does it become an act.
And here is the part that has not let go of me. We cannot see the third force. Nicoll called the formatory mind, the part of us that sorts everything into this or that, third-force blind. It sees the first force; that is usually us. It sees the second; that is whatever is in the way. The third does not register at all, even when it is standing in the room.
I had it about my own work. Three essays this summer. I did not see they were one.
We cannot summon the third. What we can do is keep the gap open. The half-second between an impression and a reaction is not where the third force comes from. It is where it gets in.
So look at where you are pushing. And ask the only useful question: what have I made no room for?
Three-making is not something you do. It is something you stop preventing.
