The Phoenix's Spark: Releasing Illusions of Self

    About This Reading

Explore the Ace of Wands and 'ego death' through Jungian and Fourth Way lenses. Discover the unexamined creative fire and what you cling to within yourself.

Ace of Wands. A hand reaches in from the edge of the world and grips a living staff. Green leaves push out of the wood above your fingers. At the top, a light breaks open that the hand did not make. You ask what ego death would free you from. Perhaps nothing has to die. Perhaps what falls away is the old habit of believing you are many hands, each grabbing at the fire. There is only one hand here. So look honestly at your grip. Is it tight because you fear dropping the staff? Or because you fear what it might do without you? The Sanskrit word is Tejas, the radiance that burns from within. Loosen the hand. Not to let go. To let it grow.
