When Inner Work Becomes a Siege: Shadow and the Knight of Wands

    About This Reading

Explore the Knight of Wands and shadow work through Jungian depth and Fourth Way inquiry. Learn why fighting inner resistance only drives it deeper.

    Knight of Wands.

His staff is in flower, and he is still charging. Even what is alive in us can be carried like a weapon.

You ask why the work you do on yourself seems to turn against you. Often it is because you came to heal carrying the same restlessness that made the wound. The dust flies, the horse leaps, and inner work becomes one more campaign. You are laying siege to yourself.

What resists being seen is not an enemy holding a wall. It is a part of you that learned, long ago, that staying hidden kept you safe. It will not come out for a charge. It comes out when the rider stops.

Jung would say the shadow is never defeated, only met. And no one meets anything at a gallop.

In the Fourth Way, the first work is only to observe, without trying to change what you see.

The Sanskrit word is Rajas, passion and restlessness, motion that mistakes itself for progress.

So let the horse stand. Sit beside what resists, the way you would sit with a frightened child, and wait. What hid to survive will speak once it knows you are staying.
